counting stars

Orion is one of the most recognizable constellation in the sky.  You can see his three-star belt in the picture above as well as Betelgeuse in the top-left.  Orion's right arm/shoulder is Betelgeuse, a reddish colored supergiant (a very bright star with a short lifespan).


Above (I think) is Cassiopeia.


Unfortunately, when I took these pictures the moon was out in full force and it made it hard to capture the stars.  My camera was also being relatively finicky with the lighting situation being a fully digital camera. But hey, doesn't the moon look nice in the night sky?
