It's been a long time since posting and not for lack of adventure. So, after a long time away from publishing photos and trip updates, here are a handful of shots from my latest adventure. I got the opportunity to get some early season backcountry turns in when Colin asked me if I was interested in joining him and Rick for a ski tour up at the Mt Baker ski resort. We left Seattle early still in the darkness of winter morningtime and headed north. Once we reached the parking lot we were surprised (!) at how many others had had the same notion to get busy on the snow. Some hundreds of folks were there all feverish for the start of the season.
In an effort to escape the crowds we skinned up to the flank of Table Mountain and dropped off the ridge to the south towards Ptarmigan Peak. Luckily not many others had chosen this path so we had some time to enjoy the peace of unfettered slopes and quiet scenery. The previous night's storm had deposited nearly one and a half feet of fresh snow which made for great runs off the saddle before we made our way back towards Artist Point.
Here is Rick taking in the view from the saddle.
Not bad for freshies in November!
Back at the car we loaded up and headed back to Seattle around 1630. To celebrate our early season excursion we stopped in at Boundary Bay for beers and chow before heading back to Seattle. If this was any indication of the winter to come, I say cheers and welcome Winter! We missed you.
