right way to start a new year

by Sunday, 05 February 2012

Belated photos from the new year.

This is finely mashed sweet potatoes with chest nuts.  A common dish. It is meant to bring you good luck financially.

This is "kuromame".  This is not the usual bean used for "kuromame", but it sure was delicious.  This is eaten to keep you healthy and strong like a "bean" during the year.

This is called "ozouni" which has mochi inside a nice broth.  This is eaten as part of breakfast (at least in my family).

Those are some fish cakes.  They are often made from sharks.

I think that may just have been left overs, but who can say no to flank steak?

Thanks mom!
